The Rotary Club of Delray Beach announces its second annual “Run for the Roses” Kentucky Derby-style celebration, taking place on Saturday, May 2, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Old School Square in the heart of downtown Delray Beach.
This stylish and spirited event will combine the excitement of the Kentucky Derby with a meaningful cause: raising funds for 10 scholarships for graduating high school seniors and providing essential items to nearly 100 children experiencing homelessness in Delray Beach. As one of the city’s oldest nonprofits, the Delray Beach Rotary Club has proudly awarded more than 750 scholarships over the years, empowering the next generation of leaders.
“We’re celebrating in Derby style the Delray way”, said club president Rita Rana, “but the real win is investing in the future of Delray Beach’s children.”
The Rotary’s commitment to education runs deep. For over 30 years, they have distributed free dictionaries to every local third-grade student—often the first book a child can truly call their own. With more than half of local K–3 students currently reading below grade level, the Club’s mission is more critical than ever. City and county leaders, including Delray Beach Mayor Tom Carney, are championing efforts to improve literacy and educational outcomes, making this event a timely opportunity to give back.
Guests will enjoy the thrill of the race, festive attire contests (best hat, best female outfit, best male outfit), and an elegant Southern party atmosphere. Expect Derby-chic fashion, complimentary valet, and a grand entrance through a rose-adorned arch into a stunning white tent filled with twinkling lights.
