Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach Honors Two During Police Appreciation Awards Presentation

The Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach joined the Delray Beach Police Department in honoring the outstanding efforts of a police officer and a civilian employee during the club’s twice a year Police Appreciation Awards meeting held May 12 at the Delray Beach Market.
Recognized for their exceptional achievement in service to the community were Officer Adam Whiting, credited for saving the life of 3-month-old infant who wasn’t breathing, and Communications Specialist Nicholai Abdul, honored for his leadership during a multi-agency pursuit of a stolen vehicle.
“Both of these individuals did outstand-ing work during challenging circumstances and we are pleased to be able to show our appreciation for their efforts,” said Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach’s Scott Youngberg. “The public recognition they’re receiving is well deserved.”
Whiting was applauded for his efforts in October, who after meeting with the mother of the infant, immediately took the unresponsive child into his arms and began administering life-saving techniques that helped restore the unresponsive baby’s breathing. The officer then held the child upright until paramedics arrived. Fellow officers at the scene said they were sure Whiting saved the infant’s life.
Abdul was honored for his work in July while serving as the acting midnight shift supervisor and assisting with the multi-agency pursuit of a stolen vehicle which failed to stop for responding officers. After the occupants fled from the vehicle, Abdul continued to dispatch on a shared channel that included law enforcement personnel from the Boca Raton Police Department, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office helicopter and Delray Beach road patrol officers.
Delray Beach Police Chief Javaro Sims congratulated Whiting and Abdul while thanking the Kiwanis Club.
“We are grateful to the Kiwanis Club for its continued recognition of the outstanding work done by the men and women of the Delray Beach Police Department,” he said.
The awards were presented during National Police Week, May 9 through May 15.
