When it comes to pizza, perfection isn’t easy to find, but Square Peg Pizzeria has set their sights on the highest rung. And it’s been working very well.
They have 10 Square Peg Pizzeria’s in Connecticut and are celebrating their first anniversary in Delray Beach.
Everyone is happy about that. The reason is simply that it’s not easy to find a restaurant (of any genre) that serves fresh home-made food and treats their customers like invited guests.
When you’re in Square Peg Pizzeria land there is much to do and eat. Their menu is large and encompasses dishes you have never imagined, let alone eaten. There are Brick Oven Pizzas to satisfy your every culinary whim. You have your choice of 12 Red Pizzas with toppings that range from Margherita to Prince of Paramus (pork meatballs, mushrooms, mozzarella, parmesan and tomato sauce).
Not to be outdone are nine different White Pizzas with ingredients that defy the norm. There’s a Brussel & Potato (with cured bacon, shaved Brussel sprouts, potatoes, parmesan and mozzarella cheese). As well as Truffle Boscaiola (with truffle ricotta, fresh basil, parmesan, mozzarella, mushrooms and sausage). There is also a white Buf-falo Chicken Pizza and others.
If you love the infamous Detroit-Style Pizza you’re in luck. And, if you have a hankering for something extra to go on your pizza just ask. There’s meat, seafood, veggies and every cheese you can imagine as an add-on.

If you can’t decide which pizza to order, they have that problem solved. Square Peg Pizzeria has PIZZA FLIGHTS that consist of three different small pizzas of different origin.
They use San Marzano tomatoes, high quality cheeses, homemade sauces and make pizza dough that raises the bar on excellence.
“We wanted the best pizza for our guests,” said founder Jay Maffe. “That’s why our dough recipe was perfected by our Connecticut dough master. He figured out a way to bring the perfect Northeast texture to Florida. It took real culinary skill, the result is outstanding.”
It sure is.

The key to this perfection is logistics. General Manager Matt Ne-znayko came to Delray from their flagship restaurant in Storrs, Connecticut. Matt and Head Chef Mike have an amazing team of bartenders, hosts, chefs and servers to ensure every guest feels like family.
You also get excellent food at a fair price (no small feat these days) and a wizardry of entertainment. Live Music is Thursday to Saturday, Musical bingo is Monday, and Trivia night is on Wednesdays.
“Dining out is about more than just what’s on the plate. It’s the atmosphere, the energy and the way you’re treated. Everything should come together to create the perfect escape. The perfect experience.”
Square Peg is indeed the Disneyland of Italian American cuisine. The dishes are flavorful, unique and exciting. There’s not only pizza, but six different pastas (gluten-free included), terrific wings with dry rub and different sauces, sandwiches and desserts. They also have wonderful salads with a choice of protein add-ons such as pan seared salmon, sauteed shrimp, crispy chicken breast and others.
There are tasty appetizers that will make you wonder why you haven’t homesteaded this place already. Their Honey Bruschetta is out of this world with roasted tomatoes, basil and mozzarella driz-zled in honey and balsamic glaze. There are fried pretzels with garlic oil with queso dipping sauce. And homemade breaded, fried Moz-zarella sticks with house marinara sauce.
Their desserts are perfectly dreamy. There’s Peanut Butter Pie, Fried Dough Bites with powdered sugar and Nutella, pastry with baked apples, a caramel drizzle and ice cream. There are more, but Maffe does not want you to eat this paper!
The food and drinks are wonderful, but the activities that go with the meal are equally as appetizing. There are free Pizza-Making Classes for kids (ages 2 to 12) on Saturdays, and brunch on week-ends with bottomless Bloody Marys and Mimosas, egg, bacon and cheese pizzas and spaghetti pancakes (weekends from 11am to 3).

Happy Hour is a time to relax and enjoy yourself. That’s why they have half-price pizzas, wings, tenders, meatballs, salads and more. The Happy Hour Drink Menu is also a revelation. Their Peg-Arita is legend, the Cold Brew Martini will cure whatever ails you, and they have a variety of tap and bottled beers and wine. There is also a large wraparound bar where friendships are made and celebrated. Happy Hour is 2pm to 6pm and Friday and Saturday from 8:30pm to 11pm.
Square Peg Pizzeria also has a big heart. Tuesday is charity night, where 20% of proceeds are donated to local nonprofits. They also have a food truck with wood-fired oven to bring pizza and joy to private parties, breweries and festivals.
With its blend of great food, friendly service, and nostalgic fun, Square Peg is redefining what a neighborhood pizzeria should be. Just recently there were families enjoying their food, while a couple was dancing to live music that hovered above. It seemed like an era gone by – where comfort, kindness and community co-mingled with a good meal and friendship.
That was Maffe’s mission all along.
“We’re a family-friendly restaurant that goes beyond great food; we create unforgettable experiences. When the kids are happy, the parents can relax. That’s what makes our atmosphere so special.”
After finding success up north, Square Peg made its Florida debut in Delray Beach. They’ll be opening more restaurants in South Florida soon. “We fell in love with Florida’s energy. The people are vibrant, and the community is growing fast. It’s the perfect place to expand.”
Square Peg Pizzeria also has a Loyalty Program and Monthly Specials. Every time they open a new store guests get a free small pizza with any purchase. They have a store opening this month in Preston, Connecticut – so sign up online for details.
Enjoy the excitement of discovery at this unique Italian American restaurant.
