May is also a month bursting with holidays that begin with the letter ‘M’, some of them fun, some thoughtful and some thought provoking.
Let’s start the festivities with Cinco de Mayo on May 5th. The day is marked by lively parades, mariachi music, traditional Mexican folk dances, and delicious regional dishes, all celebrating the Mexican army’s unexpected triumph over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
Mother’s Day follows soon after. Be sure to mark your calendar for Sunday, May 10th. Truthfully, one day is nowhere near enough to recognize everything mothers do – we ought to honor them every day! Right here in town, we have something for every mom, where you can Pamper and indulge her! Wishing a very Happy Mother’s Day to all moms, including those watching over us from above.
One of my personal favorites is Mimosa Day on 16th May – cheers to that! The mimosa, a much-loved brunch tipple, combines sparkling wine (champagne, Prosecco, or Cava) with chilled orange juice. There are a myriad of watering holes right here in Delray Beach offering some of the best Mimosa’s you will ever taste. And rumor has it, Alfred Hitchcock popularised the cocktail in America during the 1940s. Who knew?
Although not technically a holiday, May also brings Delray Beach ‘Music’ with a FREE Twilight Concert: Earth, Wind & Fire Tribute at Old School Square on Friday, 22nd May. Get ready to dance along to the opening act, School of Rock – Delray Beach! Performing from 6 pm – 7:20 pm, followed by Patrick Lamb’s Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire: 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm.
Memorial Day is always commemorated on the last Monday in May. This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 25th. It’s a time to honour and remember those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice serving their country, never returning home. Let’s come together to pay tribute to our heroes this Memorial Day.
A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.
