The word appreciate means: to be grateful or thankful for, and to value or regard highly.
In other words, if you appreciate something, you like it because you recognize its good qualities.
Delray Beach has many qualities that we can be grateful for and plenty of places that we can be thankful for.
Let’s start with our beach. It’s a beauty, a true gem that is on our doorstep. Voted the #1 Best Beach in Florida by the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for the SECOND year in a row!! That award, which we are very proud of, may also be due to the wonderful volunteers working tirelessly to clean our beaches. A huge shout-out to Beachkeepers and Trashy Mermaids for your commitment and hard work.
Other places we can be thankful for include the well-maintained parks and the free yoga on the first Sunday of every month. We can also take pride and appreciate Old School Square, Pineapple Grove Arts District, Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, First Friday Art Walks, Sandoway Discovery Center and Arts Garage. That’s quite a list, don’t ya think?
These venues all offer something different and often it’s free, Let’s appreciate what we have and support these great local organizations in our wonderful city.
With the kids heading back to school or college this month, I know how expensive all the books, stationery, clothes etc. can be. It soon mounts up. Take advantage of the back-to-school sales tax holiday, which this year is for the entire month of August. We also have an article in this issue offering tips on how to keep the costs down.
