LET’S ALL EAT HUMBLE PIE

The weather is still fabulous and our City is bustling with activity. We have exhibitions, arts, festivals, the Superbowl, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, and Game, Set, Match – For the Love of tennis, at the Delray Beach Open. You won’t find Fault on Court with the World’s Only 10-Day ATP 250 & Legends Event.

There is also a quirky date that I found on the calendar, Be Humble Day. It stood out to me as a noteworthy observance in February. The day reminds us to stay grounded, value the contributions of others, and create a respectful, modest environment. By listening and recognising that everyone has flaws, we foster kindness and understanding. There is nothing amiss in embracing humility in our daily lives.

Humility benefits everyone, and Be Humble Day, observed on 22nd February, encourages us to make it part of our routine.

Ever heard the phrase ‘eat humble pie’? Apparently, it originates from medieval England, where ‘umble pie’—made from less desirable animal parts—was typically served to servants. Over time, ‘umbles’ became ‘humble’, and the expression came to signify the act of admitting faults or accepting a lower status.

So how can you practice humility you might ask?

You could show gratitude for the support you receive, no matter how big or small. Give sincere compliments without expecting anything in return. Volunteer and put others first, by helping out, or simply listening without judgement. Admit your mistakes and apologise sincerely, taking responsibility for your actions. These don’t sound too difficult to implement, although admitting I made a mistake….YIKES!

Be Humble Day is a chance to acknowledge our faults and strive for personal growth. Humble Pie never tasted so good!

And someone who sits on the side of humility is Rhonda Fritzshall, the co-founder of HERD Foundation. A nonprofit dedicated to providing equine-assisted services for veterans, active service members, and their families. She is our City person this month!

I would like to wish you all a month full of flowers, chocolates, love, smiles and happiness!

Without humility there can be no humanity..
