Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is proud to present Light as Air: The Buoyant Sculptures of Mariko Kusumoto, a captivating exhibition that invites guests to experience the harmony of traditional Japanese craft and contemporary artistry.
On view from November 8, 2025, through April 4, 2026, the new exhibit features 52 ethereal fiber creations by internationally acclaimed artist Mariko Kusumoto.
Kusumoto’s translucent, vibrant sculptures evoke the delicate beauty of underwater life and botanical wonder, often appearing to float in space. Light as Air will showcase a site-specific installation that transforms the gallery into a meditative, dreamlike world of soft, flowing forms—some of which will meander and expand into multiple dimensions of the exhibition space.
Light as Air offers visitors a rare opportunity to step into Kusu-moto’s wonderfully imaginative universe; a place where tradition and perception drift together in perfect harmony.
