Frances Bourque has been called many things. But, Visionary, Preservationist and Community Builder says it best.
Frances saw three historic school buildings (from 1913) in downtown Delray Beach in disrepair. While some people wanted to tear down the buildings, Frances saw their potential.
She formed a Task Force to repair the space (in the 80’s) and transformed them into the most spectacular cultural hub in Delray Beach. Old School Square remains the center of culture and artistic prominence in Palm Beach County to this day.
As a way to honor this cultural leader and visionary, the Board of Directors of Old School Square Center for the Arts recently established the Frances F. Bourque Scholarship Fund. It was established through the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties.
Each year a $2,500 scholarship will be granted to a South Palm Beach County Student who majors in the Arts.
This scholarship is in perpetuity, and the number of scholarships will increase with time and monies raised.
